Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East - an email to Israel's Ambassador to the UK
Dear Mr. AMBASSADOR ZVI HEIFETZ,
I can barely find the words to comment on the atrocities that your Government has been committing against innocent civilians in these past few days and hours. Your cruel, ruthless and criminal behavior is against any ethical, moral or religious principle and certainly it’s against that international Law your Government has never respected.
The despicable racism of your Government’s actions compete only with the hypocrisy used to justify them.
I wish the people of your country to finally find the courage to choose peace and justice against the abominable racism and violence of their own Government. I am sure they too deserve much better than living in a terrorist state.

Hear, hear, Gabriele. Sometimes anger is the only response one can make.
An appeal to reason, or decency, or humanitarian principles, let alone international law, is useless when dealing with these monsters - not only the vile Olmert, but Bush, Blair and Beckett too. It has to be said: there are far too many pro-zionist jews in positions of influence in Britain as well as in America. The few rebels, like Fisk and Pilger, overwhelmed as they are by the massive pro-Israeli/US lobby are sadly peeing into the wind. There are plenty 'liberal' journalists who mouth liberalisms about all and sundry, even about America. But when it comes to Israel, it is a different matter altogether. They are either dead silent or uncritical apologists for whatever crime Israel commits.
If the Prophets would live today, they would stand up and tell the truth to the sinful Jewish leaders. These "Jewish" leaders are not only criminals towards the Palestinian people but draw everything positive that might still be found in Judaism with them into the abyss.

To my knowledge Israel claims no defined borders.

You , war mongers, can say what ever you choose about Israel, but no evidence that you are talking truth. You don't know your enemy. And it seems to me that this enemy is smarter than you.
Israel has tried many times and made many offers for peace - I haven't seen any offers coming from your representatives.
You are talking hate and jealous out of dark past, ignorance of now days and fear from the future.
We must remember, in the recent history, what started this current fighting was the bombardment of Israel and kidnapping of Israeli soldiers. Now you can always blame Israel as a reflex, but you have to meet the truth, which is, you formally give shelter to terror group which execute its own interested policy that meet the Iranian and Syrian interests rather than the Lebanese one.
the reason for the extent of the bombings is because we are trying to fish out the Hezbulla people and their launchers and rockets. They hid there well, and where? right inside houses, in villages and towns.
The IDF has a long target list. It was built using extensive intelligence research over the past years. It's what the intelligence is in charge of. It's constructed based on thousands of little bits and pieces of information (not all of it accurate probably), gathered from many resources.
What the IDF is doing now, is going through that long checklist and blowing up the targets. As simple as that. That's why southern Lebanon, as well as the Shi'ite Dahiya neighborhoods are blown to bits. That's why the northern parts of Beirut and of the rest of the country are left relatively unharmed (from what I hear, from Lebanese people living here, they stil have electrictiy and water, and other than being swamped with refugees, they are doing relatively ok). I guess not letting the Hezbulla turn your home into an ammo depot pays off.
Keep safe. Hopefully, somehow, with or without support from Lebanese people, or the world in general, we will manage to bring Hezbulla to its knees and you can return and rebuild your country from the damage invoked by THEM.

FACTS
1) Israel's neighbors do not want peace. Their stated (quite openly I might add) goal is the destruction of Israel and the murdering of all jews.
2) They fight among civilians.
= WHAT OTHER CHOICE DOES ISRAEL HAVE?
I see two choices. They can either curl up and die or kill the enemy (and with the enemy, the innocent civilians those cowards hide amongst). If you have any other suggestions feel free to chime in.
I am appalled by some of the commentaries on this blog.
Yes, Hizbullah started by capturing two israeli soldiers. But if Israel's response is 'just' and 'appropriate' as some say, what then should be Syria's response to the grabbing of some of its land? what should be the appropriate response to Israel's atrocities in the occupied territories? If what we see now in Lebanon was an 'appropriate' response should then Syria destroy Israel's infrastrucure and the Palestinians kill 10 israelis for each palestinian killed?
The view that Israel has just used the right to defend itself in acting this way is not going to help create a stable environment. It perpetuates the idea that Israel is a victim, with all rights, but it is not in the strategic interests of Israel.
To the Honorable Israeli Ambassador:
Do you think a more honest approach by Israel about your history would move you closer to lasting peace? (see quote below). I would venture an educated guess that a lot of people in the Middle East know what’s been done. Of course, the Palestinians know. When I hear representatives like the Israeli Ambassador to the U.N. speak, they come across as having a clear conscience. They mention that Israel doesn’t celebrate, like Hezbollah, when their enemy country’s innocent civilians die, they act so sure that Israel is morally superior. Does this move you closer to peace?
I suggest that Israel’s representatives somehow make it clear that they are saddened and contrite about the acts some of those who helped found the country committed and that you have changed and will strictly punish any such acts if they occur again. Then you will have the moral high ground to show how Israel has been hurt. Similarly, improving your human rights record (for example, not bulldozing two or three houses because a terrorist is suspected in one) will move you closer to peace.
Creating and maintaining an ethos of humility and honesty is the way to get others to listen to you. I’m not only blaming Israel. I expect more of Israel. From your words, you expect more of yourselves. I’m glad you speak against targeting civilians. But people in the area know the things you’ve done in the past (see below). Why not keep in your opponent’s minds how sorry Israel is. Be on the same page. Someone has to take the first step, many steps, and be the mature ones. Israel has shown this maturity a lot. You need to show it completely and not pretend there’s no legitimate reason for Arabs to hate you for what you did to the Palestinian people.
There’s no guarantees, but when somebody is angry with you, I’m sure you know, you can either get angry back and engage in more fighting or you can try to find some legitimacy in their anger and extend an olive branch, yes an apology, even when they have done more wrong than you. As you know, you can only change yourself. Be diligent and strict with yourself and do what is right. Maybe one day your enemies will recognize you are good people and learn to trust you and compromise with you.
