In 1946, judging the war crimes committed by those who lost the WWII, the winners established the following principle: "To initiate a war of aggression, therefore, is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [International Military Tribunal for the Trial of German Major War Criminals, Nuremberg, Germany 1946]. This principle founded the United Nations and since it has been at the base of the entire building of international law.
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan called the US-led invasion of Iraq, “an illegal act that contravened the UN charter”, the “supreme international crime” according to Nuremberg’s trials. That single “supreme international crime” has been estimated to slaughter so far 650,000 innocent Iraqi human beings and murdered thousands of American, British, other countries’ soldiers and the so-called “private contractors”, many of whom “recruited” in the so-called “developing” countries. Globalization at its best! Iraq has been destroyed and the cradle of civilization is now agonizing between two rivers of blood. Freedom! Freedom! Democracy! Democracy!
Celebrated in that notorious bordello called “the green zone”, the Saddam Hussein “trial” brings the international community all the way back to the pre-Nuremberg era. It deletes the last 60 years of international law and restores the “legality” of committing the “supreme international crime” by the most barbarian death machine in human history: Corporate America. But the comparison with the Third Reich would be inappropriate. No country invaded by the Nazi had the same fate of Iraq. The guardians of human rights will call this “humanitarian intervention”. Human Rights What? Freedom! Freedom! Democracy! Democracy!
That show-trial (where everything was a surprise except the verdict) has been a dirty smokescreen to cover the monstrosity of this scandal happening before our eyes; the illegal invasion, occupation and annihilation of a sovereign and defenseless country. Butchers, clowns and whores have directed a miserable pornographic show against the legitimate president of Iraq while their masters have been plundering the country. In the dock Saddam Hussein was Iraq and Iraq was Saddam Hussein. That many (Iraqis and not) cannot read history while it’s being written adds tragedy to the tragedy but the bloody howls coming from those who should be in the dock won’t change history’s verdict. They will only precipitate all of us in even darker and more dangerous times.

The control of the energy resources is just part of the whole picture; Iraq had to be destroyed to allow the so-called reshaping of the Middle East. The notorious “political process” has been a formidable Trojan horse that forced the Iraqi People into a civil war. Far from being a failure, the main mission of this bloody project has been accomplished. Iraq as we knew it has gone, probably forever. God bless America…

In all honesty, I don't care about dogma and sloganeering. I care about what is true. And to say that "corporate america" is 'the most barbarian death machine in human history' isn't a true statement. If you would like to put forth a claim that your statement is true, you would need to provide some evidence to back it up. It isn't just true because you think it is or because you would like it to be true.
One could provide evidence to argue that 'corporate america' is a nefarious, perhaps even evil, entity. But could one honestly say it is 'the most barbarian death machine in human history'?
I'd like to take seriously what you write. But sentences like that one makes that quite hard. Especially since you haven't even tried to back up your claim, but instead resort to calling me ignorant and in denial.

Some facts.
Not even considering the nuking of two major cities in Japan and what the US did to the civilian population in Germany and Japan, do you know how many wars the US has waged around the world since 1946? Try to do some search and you will be surprised.
And then count the military coups and all those CIA interventions around the world that left dozens of countries instable and in agony.
And then please add also the IMF, the World Bank...
There is not a single corner on this planet that the "benevolence" of the US government (representing Corporate America) has not shown its hugly face.

I've got to agree with Anonymous on this. Your rhetoric is over the top and unsupported. What is the point in making an allegation such as the "most barbarian death machine in human history," - who is that going to persuade without some figures to back it up? If you really believe it then I suggest that you produce some figures with sources as to number of victims of
1) Chinese Communism
2) The Soviet Union
3) Nazi Germany
4) British Imperialism
Use of the word "death machine," calls to mind the Nazi gas chambers and I'm afraid you have got some persuading to do to persuade anyone that America's various imperial forays really match Auschwitz in the barbarity stakes, even if the numbers are in any way comparable.

IF your blog is a genuine attempt to influence people to your point of view you need to learn to criticise yourself, accept criticism and also to apologise for your mistakes.
Your writing and thinking should be firmly based on provable facts and on persuading your readers and the public in general, not on exaggeration, insults, sloganeering, personal parochial concerns or grandstanding.
If you are questioned for proof of a statement of fact which you have made then you should be prepared with facts and sources.
If you are ignorant of certain issues, for instance the extent of mass murder committed under various regimes, then you should avoid making public statements about these matters.
You should be particularly careful about making statements with regard to genocide as this is a very sensitive subject.
If you don't follow these rules then IMHO you are not part of the reality-based community.

It is of course very obvious what I meant, and it is telling why you chose to concentrate on that sentence, but let me rephrase it so that there isn't any confusion:

I have spent two decades of my life (one that includes history studies at Gothenburg University in Sweden, Cambridge in the UK, and Columbia in New York City) actively protesting domestic and foreign policies of my government (USA). And I am a member of several socialist organizations. But in my life I have not turned a blind eye to past and current crimes of other entities that aren't called 'corporate america' - the many tens of millions that have died by other hands the last century do not deserve to be disregarded just because they didn't die at the hands of the US government. It is a disgrace to play politics with peoples lives, whether it is done by dogmatic US presidents or so-called 'progressive' activists - I really see no difference in the way you or someone like GWB think. You have your set world view, and conveniently disregard available facts if they interfere with your dogmatic look at the world.
It's not what you think, rather it's how you think. The problem with your last dismissive retort is that you haven't actually called 'corporate america a barbarian death machine' - if you had I wouldn't have had too much to complain about. But you have instead called it 'the most barbarian death machine in human history.' - even you must be able to tell the difference.

Well, you're talking to me, and not the vast majority of the 'so-called free world' first of all- and no matter who you are addressing you will have to explain what good more ignorance and denial rather than less will do to enlighten your fellow humans. Or, perhaps you have resigned to the fact that you are only addressing an audience that already thinks the way you do and that painting with a thicker brush will only get your cheers from the choir?
The first steps to intellectual honesty are to admit to mistakes and to question one's own prejudices and beliefs. This is the only way to clarity, truth, justice, true freedom etc. The way you barrel on is only adding to the troubles we have in this world. Sorry, I guess I was sadly mistaken here. I thought this blog was a serious, honest and genuine effort.
My mistake. Please accept my apologies.
I will not be bothering you again.
Let's take a few moments and look at some of the details of the event without which the Republinazis would have never been able to scare America into thinking it was necessary to invade Iraq. Of course I am referring to 9/11.
One thing that struck me as odd in the days after 9/11 was Bush saying "We will not tolerate conspiracy theories [regarding 9/11]". Sure enough there have been some wacky conspiracy theories surrounding the events of that day. The most far-fetched and patently ridiculous one that I've ever heard goes like this: Nineteen hijackers who claimed to be devout Muslims but yet were so un-Muslim as to be getting drunk all the time, doing cocaine and frequenting strip clubs decided to hijack four airliners and fly them into buildings in the northeastern U.S., the area of the country that is the most thick with fighter bases. After leaving a Koran on a barstool at a strip bar after getting shitfaced drunk on the night before, then writing a suicide note/inspirational letter that sounded like it was written by someone with next to no knowledge of Islam, they went to bed and got up the next morning hung over and carried out their devious plan. Nevermind the fact that of the four "pilots" among them there was not a one that could handle a Cessna or a Piper Cub let alone fly a jumbo jet, and the one assigned the most difficult task of all, Hani Hanjour, was so laughably incompetent that he was the worst fake "pilot" of the bunch, with someone who was there when he was attempting to fly a small airplane saying that Hanjour was so clumsy that he was unsure if he had driven a car before. Nevermind the fact that they received very rudimentary flight training at Pensacola Naval Air Station, making them more likely to have been C.I.A. assets than Islamic fundamentalist terrorists. So on to the airports after Mohammed Atta supposedly leaves two rental cars at two impossibly far-removed locations. So they hijack all four airliners and at this time passengers on United 93 start making a bunch of cell phone calls from 35,000 feet in the air to tell people what was going on. Nevermind the fact that cell phones wouldn't work very well above 4,000 feet, and wouldn't work at ALL above 8,000 feet. But the conspiracy theorists won't let that fact get in the way of a good fantasy. That is one of the little things you "aren't supposed to think about". Nevermind that one of the callers called his mom and said his first and last name ("Hi mom, this is Mark Bingham"), more like he was reading from a list than calling his own mom. Anyway, when these airliners each deviated from their flight plan and didn't respond to ground control, NORAD would any other time have followed standard operating procedure (and did NOT have to be told by F.A.A. that there were hijackings because they were watching the same events unfold on their own radar) which means fighter jets would be scrambled from the nearest base where they were available on standby within a few minutes, just like every other time when airliners stray off course. But of course on 9/11 this didn't happen, not even close. Somehow these "hijackers" must have used magical powers to cause NORAD to stand down, as ridiculous as this sounds because total inaction from the most high-tech and professional Air Force in the world would be necessary to carry out their tasks. So on the most important day in its history the Air Force was totally worthless. Then they had to make one of the airliners look like a smaller plane, because unknown to them the Naudet brothers had a videocamera to capture the only known footage of the North Tower crash, and this footage shows something that is not at all like a jumbo jet, but didn't have to bother with the South Tower jet disguising itself because that was the one we were "supposed to see". Anyway, as for the Pentagon they had to have Hani Hanjour fly his airliner like it was a fighter plane, making a high G-force corkscrew turn that no real airliner can do, in making its descent to strike the Pentagon. But these "hijackers" wanted to make sure Rumsfeld survived so they went out of their way to hit the farthest point in the building from where Rumsfeld and the top brass are located. And this worked out rather well for the military personnel in the Pentagon, since the side that was hit was the part that was under renovation at the time with few military personnel present compared to construction workers. Still more fortuitous for the Pentagon, the side that was hit had just before 9/11 been structurally reinforced to prevent a large fire there from spreading elsewhere in the building. Awful nice of them to pick that part to hit, huh? Then the airliner vaporized itself into nothing but tiny unidentifiable pieces most no bigger than a fist, unlike the crash of a real airliner when you will be able to see at least some identifiable parts, like crumpled wings, broken tail section etc. Why, Hani Hanjour the terrible pilot flew that airliner so good that even though he hit the Pentagon on the ground floor the engines didn't even drag the ground!! Imagine that!! Though the airliner vaporized itself on impact it only made a tiny 16 foot hole in the building. Amazing. Meanwhile, though the planes hitting the Twin Towers caused fires small enough for the firefighters to be heard on their radios saying "We just need 2 hoses and we can knock this fire down" attesting to the small size of it, somehow they must have used magical powers from beyond the grave to make this morph into a raging inferno capable of making the steel on all forty-seven main support columns (not to mention the over 100 smaller support columns) soften and buckle, then all fail at once. Hmmm. Then still more magic was used to make the building totally defy physics as well as common sense in having the uppermost floors pass through the remainder of the building as quickly, meaning as effortlessly, as falling through air, a feat that without magic could only be done with explosives. Then exactly 30 minutes later the North Tower collapses in precisely the same freefall physics-defying manner. Incredible. Not to mention the fact that both collapsed at a uniform rate too, not slowing down, which also defies physics because as the uppermost floors crash into and through each successive floor beneath them they would shed more and more energy each time, thus slowing itself down. Common sense tells you this is not possible without either the hijackers' magical powers or explosives. To emphasize their telekinetic prowess, later in the day they made a third building, WTC # 7, collapse also at freefall rate though no plane or any major debris hit it. Amazing guys these magical hijackers. But we know it had to be "Muslim hijackers" the conspiracy theorist will tell you because (now don't laugh) one of their passports was "found" a couple days later near Ground Zero, miraculously "surviving" the fire that we were told incinerated planes, passengers and black boxes, and also "survived" the collapse of the building it was in. When common sense tells you if that were true then they should start making buildings and airliners out of heavy paper and plastic so as to be "indestructable" like that magic passport. The hijackers even used their magical powers to bring at least seven of their number back to life, to appear at american embassies outraged at being blamed for 9/11!! Further making themselves look guilty, the Bush administration steadfastly refused for over a year to allow a commission to investigate 9/11 to even be formed, only agreeing to it on the conditions that they get to dictate its scope, meaning it was based on the false pretense of the "official story" being true with no other alternatives allowed to be considered, handpicked all its members making sure the ones picked had vested interests in the truth remaining buried, and with Bush and Cheney only "testifying" together, only for an hour, behind closed doors, with their attorneys present and with their "testimonies" not being recorded by tape or even written down in notes. Yes, this whole story smacks of the utmost idiocy and fantastic far-fetched lying, but it is amazingly enough what some people believe. Even now, five years later, the provably false fairy tale of the "nineteen hijackers" is heard repeated again and again, and is accepted without question by so many Americans. Which is itself a testament to the innate psychological cowardice of the American sheeple, i mean people, and their abject willingness to believe something, ANYTHING, no matter how ridiculous in order to avoid facing a scary uncomfortable truth. For the alleged professor with a flair for rhetoric and an inability to see the forest for the trees, I would say you are grossly misinformed. While conventional history books speak volumes on the crimes of past foes, they gloss over or ignore the crimes that America - in military or economic guise - have perpetuated on the globe.
I have no doubt that the history books of the future will lament the West's unbridled greed and the horrors which it has and will continue to spawn.
