The show must go on

The show must go on
By Gabriele Zamparini

Justice at last! Saddam Hussein was convicted and sentenced to hang. From Washington to London the wolves are howling. Freedom! Freedom! Democracy! Democracy! The butchers and the whores are banqueting with the blood of the Iraqi children. Three million Iraqis have fled Iraq in the past three years. More than 650,000 have been killed in this war of liberation. The price was worth it, the butchers and the whores are howling. Freedom! Freedom! Democracy! Democracy!

In 1946, judging the war crimes committed by those who lost the WWII, the winners established the following principle: "To initiate a war of aggression, therefore, is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." [International Military Tribunal for the Trial of German Major War Criminals, Nuremberg, Germany 1946]. This principle founded the United Nations and since it has been at the base of the entire building of international law.

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan called the US-led invasion of Iraq, “an illegal act that contravened the UN charter”, the “supreme international crime” according to Nuremberg’s trials. That single “supreme international crime” has been estimated to slaughter so far 650,000 innocent Iraqi human beings and murdered thousands of American, British, other countries’ soldiers and the so-called “private contractors”, many of whom “recruited” in the so-called “developing” countries. Globalization at its best! Iraq has been destroyed and the cradle of civilization is now agonizing between two rivers of blood. Freedom! Freedom! Democracy! Democracy!

Celebrated in that notorious bordello called “the green zone”, the Saddam Hussein “trial” brings the international community all the way back to the pre-Nuremberg era. It deletes the last 60 years of international law and restores the “legality” of committing the “supreme international crime” by the most barbarian death machine in human history: Corporate America. But the comparison with the Third Reich would be inappropriate. No country invaded by the Nazi had the same fate of Iraq. The guardians of human rights will call this “humanitarian intervention”. Human Rights What? Freedom! Freedom! Democracy! Democracy!

That show-trial (where everything was a surprise except the verdict) has been a dirty smokescreen to cover the monstrosity of this scandal happening before our eyes; the illegal invasion, occupation and annihilation of a sovereign and defenseless country. Butchers, clowns and whores have directed a miserable pornographic show against the legitimate president of Iraq while their masters have been plundering the country. In the dock Saddam Hussein was Iraq and Iraq was Saddam Hussein. That many (Iraqis and not) cannot read history while it’s being written adds tragedy to the tragedy but the bloody howls coming from those who should be in the dock won’t change history’s verdict. They will only precipitate all of us in even darker and more dangerous times.

Freedom! Freedom! Democracy! Democracy! will write the Imperial historians, raping history as the barbarians have raped the Iraqi children. But those children know better. Four hyenas, the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel and Iran have destroyed a country that could have been a power in the region and a model for the Arab world. The vultures of the international community have been cooperating and watching the bloodbath waiting to share the rich carcass. The control of the energy resources is just part of the whole picture; Iraq had to be destroyed to allow the so-called reshaping of the Middle East. The notorious “political process” has been a formidable Trojan horse that forced the Iraqi People into a civil war. Far from being a failure, the main mission of this bloody project has been accomplished. Iraq as we knew it has gone, probably forever. God bless America…

The land of the free and the home of the brave has just celebrated the last episode of Freedom! Freedom! Democracy! Democracy! What a show. The Imperial Democrats have regained control of the Imperial Congress and the Bush Era is over. Victory! Victory! are howling the Imperial liberals. Hillary Clinton is getting ready to reenter into the White House, together with war criminal Bill, the man who still have Iraqi children's blood on his hands. Victory! Victory! is howling Israel, so happy for the great performance of its candidates to celebrate with some more fire works in the Occupied Territories. Dr. Death resigned as Defense (sic!) Secretary. The show needs some drama after all. Victory! Victory! Americans should be proud is howling a jubilant Imperial anti-war movement that once again is selling illusions and hiding the truth… But please don’t talk about the carnage of babies in Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine... The Kafka’s trial is over but the show must go on. Freedom! Freedom! Democracy! Democracy!

“Should decent people subscribe to The Progressive?”

Dear Mathew Rothschild, editor-in-chief, “Progressive

I have just read on Norman Finkelstein’s Blog “Should decent people subscribe to The Progressive?”

What you and “Progressive” Political Editor, Ruth Conniff have done has nothing to do with journalism, with free speech or with politics. As a human being I am ashamed to see so much dishonesty and unprincipled tactics just to harm personally the academic career of someone you disagree with. It’s not enough to call yourself “progressive” when your tactics smell of Stalinism.

I have a couple of times advertised my documentary XXI CENTURY on your publication. I won’t make again this mistake in the future. I will also delete all the links to your publication on my website.

I also hope that the many people writing on your publication will stand up to this new low. To answer Finkelstein’s question, “Should decent people subscribe to The Progressive?”, the answer is, No, they shouldn’t. Nor should they write for it.

Kind regards,
Gabriele Zamparini
